Established in 1843, the Portsmouth Brewing Company has been crafting beer on Second Street in Portsmouth, Ohio for more than 170 years.
Prohibition caught up with PBC in the 1920’s, and the brewery was forced to shut down, but beginning in 1997, brothers Steve and Ira “Babe” Mault, begin brewing in the historic building once again, making The Portsmouth Brewing Company the oldest micro-brewery in the midwest.
Today you can find PBC brews in pubs and stores throughout Southern & Central Ohio – the Greater Portsmouth Area, Piketon, Waverly, Chillicothe, the Greater Columbus Area, the Greater Cincinnati Area, Ironton, South Point & Athens.
1603 Storyworks was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to document some of the history of the Portsmouth Brewing Company, and experience the canning process of two unique brews found only at PBC – Bernie G, and Points & Boundaries.
You can visit the Portsmouth Brewing Company at 224 2nd St. in Portsmouth, Ohio. Make sure to get a tour of the historic building and brewery!
